This is a historical account about two families who lived in and around Alnwick, Northumberland primarily during the 18th and 19th centuries. They included my ancestors who left property, documents, a bible, letters, photographs and memorabilia which provides an insight into life lived then by some of the gentry of Northumberland..
It is not a list of individuals from the two families and neither is it aimed exclusively at Bustons and Lamberts. On the contrary I hope people not remotely connected to either family will find it interesting as it tells of Northumbrians who experienced unusual and interesting lives.

My name is John Kenyon and my mother was Ethel Buston known as Effie, whose forebears were the Bustons and Lamberts of Northumberland we have traced back to the 12th century. Much of the information was left to me by my parents who, before the age of the internet, spent many hours researching books and documents passed down through the two families and borrowed from local public libraries. This was around the time my eldest brother Barry, who my parents had devotedly cared for throughout his 40 year life of illness, died in 1972.

All the letters have been transcribed as close to the originals as I am able.
