The first entry in this small notebook we have called the Death Book, was made in 1842 and recorded the deaths of family loved ones, friends and neighbours until the last entry in 1933.

Two entries are particularly interesting. The first records the death of Hugh, Duke of Northumberland on Feb 11 1847 and the second, shown here, much lower down the social scale tells us of the death of Jock a much loved pet on May 7 1932.

There is over 100 entries and covers Northumbrians from as far afield as New Zealand and many lost in the Great War.
